Is it selfish
to want to be you,
to just be yourself
in all that you do?

Is it selfish
to want to feel love,
to want to be safe,
to be ‘loved from above’?

Is it selfish
to want your own life,
to follow your instincts,
to know that you’re right?

Is it selfish
to put your soul first,
to hurt someone else
so you don’t come off worst?

If it’s selfish
then that’s what I’ll be,
it may not be pretty
but at least I’ll be me.
